Emily Davison was a suffragette who sacrificed herself for her cause. She went to the Epsom derby on June 4th, 1913, which was a horse race the king was attending. Emily had a scarf that had “votes for women” and the suffragette colours on it (green, white, purple).
After the race had started, and when the horse that the king bet on came around the corner Emily went passed the barriers and right in front of the king's horse holding up her scarf. She was trampled and her injuries were fatal. I did some extra research, and some people think that she just tried to tie the scarf to the king's horse but did not consider how fast a full speed racehorse was.
Either way she died on June 8th, 1913, because of the injuries.
